Pre-1800s[]
- 1577: The essay Discourse on Voluntary Servitude is published in France, being an early essay advocating for anti-authoritarianism.[1]
1800s[]
- 1840: Pierre-Joseph Proudhon becomes the first person to describe himself as an anarchist.
1900s[]
- 1921: Alberto Acquacalda is assassinated by fascists in Italy.[2]
- 1936: The Spanish Civil War begins, in which the largest anarchist revolution is attempted.
2000s[]
- 2009: Anastasia Baburova is assassinated by unknown forces in Moscow, Russia, alongside human rights lawyer Stanislav Markelov. There is speculation that this was done by the Russian government.[3]
