Some notable events around anarchism that happened in 1982.
October[]
- 14: The Litton Industries bombing occurs in British Columbia, Canada. A group of 5 anarchists named Direct Action (called the “Squamish 5” or “Vancouver 5” in media) detonates a van with 550kg of dynamite outside Litton Industries, a factory that develops parts for missiles used by the US military. They phone the factory so nobody is killed, but the bomb accidentally detonates a few minutes early, injuring several police and bystanders.[1]
November[]
- 18: In New Zealand, the 22-year old Neil Roberts commits a suicide bombing at the Wanganui Computer Centre to protest police recording of citizens personal information. He had written on a piece of cardboard before the explosion, "Heres one anarchist down. Hopefully there’s a lot more waking up. One day we’ll win – one day." Neil Roberts day is sometimes celebrated in New Zealand.[2]
