June[]
- 28: Alexander Berkman attempts to commit suicide via gunshot in Nice, France due to his suffering from a terminal illness. He is wounded and dies from his injuries later that day.[1]
July[]
- 17: The Spanish Civil War begins. The Nationalists/Francoists launch a rebellion to overthrow the Spanish Republic. Anarchists mount a defense of the republic.
- 19: The legendary Spanish Revolution begins. The CNT launches a general strike, and many anarchists and sympathisers begin collectivising land and industry across Eastern Spain. Barcelona is widely considered to be the anarchist stronghold.[2]
- 19: Félix Morga is shot by Francoists in Nájera, Spain.[3]
- 20: Francisco Ascaso is killed in battle in Barcelona, Spain.[4]
- 31: Jose Sanchez Rosa is shot by Francoist forces in Seville, Spain after they take the city.[5]
August[]
- 6: Ramón Acín emerged from hiding in Huesca, Spain in order to protect his wife and is executed by Francoists.[6]
- 22: The Carcel Modelo massacre - CNT militamen occupy Madrid prison and execute 30 people who supported the Nationalists.[7]
- 22: Francoists kill Eduardo Ferreirós Boullosa and Julián Iglesias del Río in Cea, Spain. Later claiming they were "extremists" with unsuitable ideas for the "New Spain".[8]
- 23: Concha Monrás is killed by Francoists in Huesca, Spain.[9]
- 24: María Silva Cruz is shot by Francoists in the Jagunda lagoon, Spain. Her grave is unknown.[10]
- 30: José López Bouza is shot by Francoists in Ferrol, Spain.[11]
September[]
- 1: Isaac Puente is killed by Francoists in Pancorbo, Spain.[12]
- 2: Pepita Laguarda Batet dies in Granyen hospital, from injuries sustained in combat in Uesca. She was the youngest soldier to die in combat during the war.[13]
- 5: Federico Borrell is shot and killed in battle in Espejo, Spain. This forms the basis for the famous photograph The Falling Soldier.[14]
- 19: Vicente Ballester Tinoco is shot dead in Spain, presumably by Francoists.[15]
November[]
- 18: Francoists murder Amparo Barayon while in a cemetery in Zamora, Spain. She is murdered alongside 2 other women, Juliana Luis García and Antonia Blanco Luis. Her murder is justified on false allegations that she was a foreign spy.[16]
- 18: The date on death certificate given for Constantina Alcoceba Chicharro, an anarchist midwife arrested by Francoists in Soria, Spain. However, she may have been executed earlier.[17]
- 20: Buenaventura Durruti is shot and killed while defending Madrid, Spain.[18]
- 21: Emiliano Barral is killed by shrapnel while accompanying foreign journalists in Madrid, Spain.[19]
